UV Light Therapy
Exposure to UVA and/or UVB light can be used for the treatment of numerous skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Light allergies (photosensitive reactions) are treated using a light hardening procedure.
PUVA therapy is a special form of UV therapy. Through the use of the photosensitive plant-based ingredient psoralen, which is given in tablet form 1-2 hours before the UV light therapy, the same therapeutic effect can be achieved with a lower dosage of UV light.
Generally, UV light therapy consists of 12-20 sessions before an improvement of the skin symptoms is visible.
